Art Keeps Going…. This piece has a working title of GONZO (Hunter, not Muppet). This is just another small corner. I’m in the place where the painting I anticipated creating has become its own being (much the way I assume parents look at their children who have grown up, I imagine.) I had an entire base painted out, had sketches of what I had intended and practiced the technique I was going to implement. I put more effort into the prepping and planning stages than my usual routine because I’m trying to be more deliberate and harness some of the swirling around my brain that goes on and focus. Now those are basically out the window and I’m trying to keep up with myself. Much like the curve ball Mother Nature has thrown us, life is often times about adaptability and being able to roll with the punches, right? We have to think fast on our feet and be willing to let go of what we thought we knew and were expecting and be able to be resilient and persevere through the rough parts. It can’t all be ice cream sundaes and bubblegum drops. So with that, every new day brings new challenges and the only thing I know for 100% certain won’t change is that change is inevitable.
CALLING ALL BASIC PHOTOGRAPHERS!
...OH SHIT THAT’S ME!
Every now and then, we all suffer from a case of being BASIC. It’s not too hard to find oneself among the masses, doing the same thing that our friends, family, coworkers or whoever else in your sphere is doing. And it’s completely natural for this to happen because, odds are, there’s a reason for it.
Most likely it’s because it tastes good, makes you feel good, looks good, or well… you get the point. But at a certain point, popularity can diminish the value and uniqueness of whatever the thing might be. It becomes mundane and not as cool anymore. It loses its luster and excitement. It becomes, well, BASIC.
Just in case you didn’t know the “slang” definition of basic; Urbandictionary.com describes the word basic as “being only concerned with things popular, mainstream or trendy.”
Greta J. from boredpanda has highlighted the instagram account insta_repeat, which ever so sarcastically trolls instagram and reposts a collage of images that are all essentially the same. I noticed that they seem to mostly highlight outdoor shots, like the wilderness, hiking, camping, etc. I haven’t looked through the whole account and am just now coming to its attention.
I have to admit; after reading that article and looking through this account some… I am pretty basic at times as well. In my defense, not that I need to, a lot of these shots are taken because they are of amazing places that are naturally beautiful and most likely not something you see everyday. It’s human nature to want to record those moments to share them with the world and have a record of that time. To say, “yeah, I did that, I was there.” And what’s so wrong with that?
READY TO TAKE YOUR PHOTOS TO THE NEXT LEVEL?
Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram, there are plenty of LESS basic photos.
It’s a start…
I have an issue (insert joke about more issues than such-n-such tabloid/periodical) with taking tons of photos and only maybe 5% actually make it to instagram. So I’m going to start going through my ridiculous amount of digital imagery and share things I may have overlooked or just didn’t have time for. Anyone else keep filling up their cloud storage or is that just me? Happy February! Don’t spook the groundhog!
